Interesting Observations About the Best Travel Nursing Companies for 2025
This will be the 12th consecutive year that we’ve published our annual list of the best travel nursing companies. Here are some interesting items we observed as we conducted our research for this year’s list.
Aggregate Score for All Travel Nursing Companies is Down
Frist, the aggregate average score for all travel nursing companies is down for the second consecutive year, albeit ever so slightly. That score came in at 78.39 for 2025 versus 78.85 in 2024 and 80.15 in 2023.
If we step further back, we can see that the aggregate average rating score for all travel nursing companies has actually regressed to pre-pandemic levels. In fact, it was also 78.39 back in 2019. In other words, it looks like aggregate rating scores for travel nursing companies spiked during the COVID 19 pandemic.
It’s fair to say that the crisis payrates during the pandemic played a role in the higher rating scores. It’s also fair to say that it was much easier to secure and onboard for travel nursing jobs during the pandemic. It would appear as though these positive factors outweighed the more strenuous working conditions during the pandemic.
Larger Travel Nursing Companies Make a Comeback
Last year we observed that larger travel healthcare companies got hit harder by negative reviews than their smaller counterparts. We speculated that this was due to the fact that they had larger workforces and therefore more people to layoff during the post pandemic downturn that affected the entire industry.
Either way, this appears to have evened out a bit this year. While there are still many smaller agencies on our list, several larger companies made their way back on.
Internal Employee Dissatisfaction
The following is an anecdotal observation. A pattern emerged as I inspected the reviews of the finalists for this year’s list. It seems as though negative reviews from internal staff were much more prevalent this year than in year’s past.
I’m speculating that this may be the result of more layoffs for internal staff during the past year. Another factor may be that companies are in the process of recalibrating internal process and procedures which often causes tension among employees due to temporary disarray.
Increase in Defunct Travel Nursing Companies
Next, I counted many more defunct companies this year than in year’s past. Many company websites redirected to different company sites. Some company websites simply no longer existed. And other companies had modified their Google Business Profile to indicate they were no longer in business or “permanently closed”.
Facebook Finally Fixed Their Reviews
Finally, it appears as though Facebook made some updates to their train-wreck review system. Specifically, they replaced the 5-point rating system with a binary scoring system.
Reviewers choose between Recommend or Don’t Recommend and the 100-point scale tracks the percent of positive versus negative responses. Most importantly, the scoring now appears to be accurate!
Additionally, Facebook appears to have removed tons of review spam. They made several other minor changes as well. Overall, Facebook’s reviews are dramatically improved.

How Does BluePipes Score the Best Travel Nursing Companies?
Now let’s take a detailed look as how BluePipes scores the best travel nursing companies each year. For this example, we’ll use Core Medical Group’s scores from this year.
Review Sources
As I mentioned above, we collect reviews from 5 leading reviews sources for every travel nursing company we can find. Here are the 5 review sources:
List of review services
Rating Services for 2025
- Travel Nursing Central
- Indeed
- Glassdoor
For example, here are Core Medical Group’s scores for this year:
Aggregate Average Score
| Source | # of Scores | Score |
| Travel Nursing Central | 76 | 82 |
| 251 | 94 | |
| Indeed | 170 | 4.2 |
| GlassDoor | 195 | 4.5 |
| 304 | 4.9 |
Once we have entered the review scores and review counts into the spreadsheet, we can run the calculations for the aggregate average score. We have a single formula for doing this. However, for clarity’s sake, I’ll break this down step by step.
First, we need to convert all the review scores to a common scale. To clarify, Travel Nursing Central and Facebook use a 100-point scale while Glassdoor, Indeed and Google us a 5-point scale. Therefore, we convert them all to a 100-point scale. Here is how that looks:
| Source | Score | Multiplier | Converted |
| Travel Nursing Central | 82 | 1 | 82 |
| 94 | 1 | 94 | |
| Indeed | 4.2 | 20 | 84 |
| GlassDoor | 4.5 | 20 | 90 |
| 4.9 | 20 | 98 |
Next, we calculate the total number of reviews and the total value of all the review scores. To calculate the total number of reviews, we simply add the review counts for each review source. To calculate the total value of all the review scores, we multiply the number of reviews by the review score for each source and then add products together. Here is how that looks:
| Source | Score | # of Scores | Total Value |
| Travel Nursing Central | 82 | 76 | 6,232 |
| 94 | 251 | 23,594 | |
| Indeed | 84 | 170 | 14,280 |
| GlassDoor | 90 | 195 | 17,550 |
| 98 | 304 | 29,792 | |
| Grand Total | NA | 996 | 91,448 |
Now we’re ready to calculate the aggregate average score. To do so, we simply divide the total value of all review scores by the total number of reviews. Here is how that looks:
| Aggregate Total | Total # of Reviews | Aggregate Average |
| 91,448 | 996 | 91.815261044 |
Aggregate Difference Score
Now that we have the aggregate average score for this year, we can calculate the average difference score. Here are the guidelines for this score:
Qualifications for the Aggregate Difference Score
- A company must have had more than 50 total reviews in both the current and previous year. This qualification ensures some modicum of adequate sample size.
- We cap this score at plus or minus 5 points per company. This qualification also works to ensure some modicum of adequate sample size.
We calculate an aggregate difference score for all companies who meet these guidelines. To do so, we simply subtract last year’s score from this year’s score. If the difference is positive, then we add it to this year’s score. If the difference is negative, then we subtract it from this year’s score. As I mentioned above, we cap the value at +-5.
For example, for Core Medical Group we subtracted 2024’s score of 90.35811578 from this year’s score of 91.81526104. This difference is + 1.457145267, so we add 1.457145267 to 91.81526104. for 93.272406307.
And yes, all these decimal places matter! For example, the number 9 and 10 companies on this year’s list year’s list are separated by less than .05 of a point.
Individual Difference Score
Next, we calculate the individual difference scores for each company. We do this by comparing this year’s score to las year’s score for each review source. If the score is higher this year, then the company gets a bonus. If the score is lower this year, then the company gets a penalty.
This score is quite similar to the aggregate difference score. However, we choose to keep the exact details private. This is because content thieves and copycats started copying our scoring system a few years back.
If you’re a healthcare professional or healthcare staffing agency and you would like to find out more, then please contact us. We’ll be happy to share!
Minimum Requirements and Quality Assurance
After we have the scoring complete, we sort all the companies from highest to lowest score. Then, we review each company to make sure they meet the minimum requirements. We also perform a quality check on the reviews. When we get to 20 qualifying companies, we have our list so we stop the review process.
Our system requires that a company has a minimum of 50 total reviews for all time. It also requires a minimum of 15 reviews from travel healthcare professionals within the past 12 months. These requirements ensure that a company has an adequate and recent sample size.
We also look for fake reviews. Unfortunately, we commonly disqualify several companies for fake reviews each year.
As always, we hope you found this information useful. And, in this case, we hope it helps you find a handful of excellent companies to assist you on your travel healthcare adventure!
