The Best Travel Nursing Companies 2024
The best travel nursing companies for 2024 are here! This year, we evaluated over 450 travel nursing agencies. To do so, we aggregated over 195,000 reviews from 5 of the top review sources. Then, we ran the scores through our transparent scoring system to determine the top 20 travel nursing agencies for 2024.
How BluePipes Scores the Best Travel Nursing Agencies
In case you’re interested, at the end of this article we provide a full breakdown of the scoring for one of the companies on our list. This way, you can see exactly how the scoring works.
That said, we want to give you some background on the scoring system at the outset so that you can have confidence in the list you’re about to review.
First, we do not accept payments of any kind from any company as a condition for consideration or placement on this list. Instead, we scour the web to find every travel nursing agency we can and put their names into our spreadsheet for consideration.
Next, we manually search for each company on 5 different review websites. Then, we manually add the number of reviews and the review score into the spreadsheet for each company we can find. Here are the 5 review sources we used this year.
Rating Services for 2024
- Travel Nursing Central
- Indeed
- Glassdoor
It’s important to note that a prominent review source we’ve always used is missing from this year’s list. Atlas MedStaff bought Highway Hypodermics last year. They decided to eliminate reviews from their service offerings.
Why we make the list?
You might be thinking that this sounds like a lot of work just to come up with a list of the best travel nursing companies. You’re right! It is a ton of work!! So, why do we do it?
For starters, travel healthcare professionals want to find the best travel nursing companies to work with. We moderate multiple social media groups related to travel healthcare. Questions about the best travel nursing companies are among the most commonly asked.
Unfortunately, determining the best travel nursing companies is really difficult. Relying on answers to a question you pose on social media is a really bad idea. At best, you’re going to hear from the small number of people who decided to answer at that particular time. At worst, you’ll hear from a bunch of recruiters posing as travel nurses.
It’s also difficult to rely on single review services because the reviews vary from one service to the next. A travel nursing company might have hundreds of reviews on one service and zero reviews on another. Or, they might have glowing reviews on one service and horrifying reviews on another. We can control for that by aggregating the reviews.
Meanwhile, the internet is now inundated with lists of the best travel nursing companies from content farms and lead generators whose sole purpose is to rank on Google for search terms that dive traffic to their websites. Google is now happy to oblige this spammy behavior. As a result, the first page search results include links to pages with travel nursing companies that no longer exist and others that provide downright horrible service.
Moreover, many of the web pages that Google displays claim that they provide a list of the best travel nursing companies of the year. For example, the title will say, “Best Travel Nursing Companies 2024”. However, it’s the same list and web page from 2021, 2022 and 2023. We think that is disingenuous and disrespectful to both the agencies and healthcare professionals.
Interesting observations for 2024
One of the many benefits of evaluating travel nursing companies on an annual basis like we do is that we can spot trends and changes from one year to the next. This year was highly atypical.
First, this year saw the largest decline in the aggregate average review score for all companies combined that we’ve ever seen. Typically, the aggregate average score for all travel nursing companies combined fluctuates by less than 1 point from one year to the next. For example, this score was 80.65 in 2022 and 80.15 in 2023. This score dropped to 78.85 in 2024. I know it doesn’t sound like much, but it’s a difference of over 200% in the change of this score!
What happened? Well, it’s no secret that it’s been a rough 12 to 18 months for the travel healthcare staffing industry. Job counts and pay rates plummeted as the country emerged from the throes of the COVID pandemic. Hospitals cancelled contracts at an alarming rate. Agencies were forced to lay off large percentages of internal staff members abruptly. As a result, the number of negative reviews spiked relative to previous years.
Interestingly, our annual list of the best travel nursing companies experienced its highest turnover rate ever. A closer look at the results revealed a pattern. Larger travel nursing companies fared worse than their smaller counterparts. It would seem as though the more employees a company had, the more layoffs they may have experienced and therefore the more exposed they were to negative reviews.
Best Large Travel Nursing Companies
As a result, we’ve decided to highlight a handful of the larger companies with the best scores from this year’s evaluations. We’re not technically adding them to the list of the best travel nursing companies of 2024. However, we do want to travel nurses to have some larger companies to consider given that these companies often have access to a larger number of jobs than their smaller counterparts.

Best Scoring Large Travel Nursing Companies for 2024
As I mentioned above the last 12 months was atypically difficult for the travel healthcare industry. Ultimately, the larger companies in the industry experienced downturns in their review scores to a far larger degree than their smaller counterparts. As a result, this year’s list is lacking in larger companies relative to past lists.
I think it’s valuable for travel healthcare professionals to have diversity in their choices. Therefore, I’m highlighting the highest scoring larger companies here. While they did not make the list this year, they do have exceptional review scores.
Please note that I am highlighting their aggregate scores and not their total scores. Their total scores were lower due to penalties for score reductions compared to last year.

BluePipes Best Travel Nursing Companies Scoring System
As I mentioned above, I think it’s important that we share details about how our scoring system works. By doing so, you’ll be able to see what we are measuring and how we are measuring it. This way, you can determine how best to interpret and utilize the results.
To that end, I will provide a breakdown of the scoring for Travel Nurse Across America (TNAA).
Review Sources for the Best Travel Nursing Companies 2024
As I mentioned above, we used 5 review sources this year. Those sources are Travel Nursing Central, Facebook, Glassdoor, Indeed and Google.
Travel Nursing Central is the only review source of the 5 that accepts reviews from travelers only. That means the four other sources accept reviews from both travelers and internal staff. We’re okay with that. In fact, we think it’s advantageous. A happy internal staff is strongly correlated with happy travel nurses. And, paradoxically, internal staff tend to leave more negative reviews than you might think.
Score Collection for the Best Travel Nursing Companies
First, I visit the review page for TNAA on each of the review sources. I enter the number of reviews and the review score into a spreadsheet.
Here are the results for TNAA in 2024:
Source | # of Scores | Score |

785 | 4.9 |
Calculating the Aggregate Average Score for the Best Travel Nursing Companies
Next, we need to convert all the scores to a standard scoring scale so that we can combine them all to calculate the aggregate average. We choose to convert all the scores to a 100-point scale. Here is how that breaks down for TNAA:
Source | Score | Multiplier | Converted |
Travel Nursing Central | 92.7 | 1 | 92.7 |
4.5 | 20 | 90 | |
Indeed | 4.1 | 20 | 82 |
GlassDoor | 4.2 | 20 | 84 |
4.9 | 20 | 98 |
Next, we need to calculate the total number of reviews and the total value of all the reviews. Here is how that looks for TNAA.
Source | Score | # of Scores | Total Value |
Travel Nursing Central | 92.7 | 889 | 82,410.30 |
90 | 414 | 37,260 | |
Indeed | 82 | 128 | 10,496 |

Next, we divide the total value of all the reviews by the total number of reviews. This gives us the aggregate average score.
Aggregate Total | Total # of Reviews | Aggregate Average |
223,812.30 | 2,415 | 92.67590062 |
Aggregate Difference Score for 2024
Now that we have the aggregate average score for 2024, we can calculate the aggregate difference score for 2024. The aggregate difference score simply compares this year’s aggregate average score to last year’s aggregate average score. Then, it awards a bonus for score increases and a penalty for score decreases if the company’s scores meet the requirements.
Here are the requirements for the Aggregate Difference score:
Qualifications for the Aggregate Difference Score
- A company must have had more than 50 total reviews in the previous year. This qualification ensures some modicum of adequate sample size.
- We cap this score at plus or minus 5 points per company. This qualification also works to ensure some modicum of adequate sample size.
TNAA’s aggregate average score for 2024 was 92.67590062. Their aggregate average score for 2023 was 92.6552935. As you can see, their score in 2024 is higher than their score from 2023. Therefore, they will get a bonus.
To calculate the bonus, we simply subtract the score for 2023 from the score for 2024 (92.67590062 – 92.6552935 = 0.02060712). So, TNAA’s aggregate difference score for 2024 is +0.02060712.
In case you’re wondering, all those decimal places do matter. For example, the number 15 and 16 companies on our list this year are separated by just 0.0016413 points.
Individual Difference Score for 2024
Next, we calculate the individual-difference score for each individual review source. As the name implies, we calculate the difference between this year’s score and last year’s score for each individual review source. Here again, the company can get bonuses or penalties depending on whether or not their score was higher or lower from one year to the next.
We choose to keep the exact scoring method and requirements for the individual-difference score private. We do this because copycat services have been trying to copy our methodology. That said, please contact us for all the details if you’re a traveler or agency who would like to learn more.
Minium Requirements for the Best Travel Nursing Companies List
At this point, we have calculated the final scores. The only thing left to do is to check to make sure the companies meet the minimum requirements.
We don’t do this for all 400+ companies. Instead, we sort the companies from highest to lowest score. Then, we start at the top and work our way down to find the top 20 companies that meet all the qualifications.
First, the company must have minimum of 50 total reviews. Second, the company must have 15 reviews from healthcare professionals within the last year. These two qualifications work to ensure that we have a reasonable sample size.
Finally, we check for malicious fake reviews. We are looking specifically for fake reviews that the company might have solicited to game the system. For example, Facebook has a major problem with fake reviews. However, the travel nursing companies are not soliciting them. Instead, they are spam reviews about Cryptocurrency or Foreign Exchange Futures trading.
Alternatively, we are looking for reviews about the company that we can identify as fake. There are many ways to do this. For example, we’ve found cases where the same reviewers had left reviews for the same services all over the world. It’s just not possible for that to happen unless these accounts are in the business of leaving fake reviews.
Now that you’re an expert on our scoring system, you can decide how best to interpret and utilize the results. Also, you’re probably ready for a nap after reading this entire article!
I hope you found this information useful. More importantly, I hope it helps you find a great company or 4 to assist with your career as a travel healthcare professional. Speaking of which, you can join BluePipes for free and make use of our job board, document management tools and pay calculator. It’s the easiest way to find your next assignment!
